1. I'm sitting in the computer lab of the Translation & Filology department... why? because I haven't decided to go back to my apartment. Wade thinks I need to be out among the plebeians more. So here I am, typing this Blog on a Spanish keyboard, hoping that this will not become the bastard child because it's probably going to have more typos than any of the others I write on my English-international keyboard. I worry that the other blogs will make fun of it and it'll get lonely. Luckily, El Seor Daniel showed me that I have rights to change the keyboard layout (temp) to English -- which makes me slightly happier. **mental note: must remember to reset back to Spanish**
2. Last night: Mr. Nick, again -- but I shouldnt be so surprised -- stopped by the RESA to visit and ended up staying over for dinner and sleep. Here's how that went:
I scanned pictures in Ral's room from Verena -- which I've not received from him yet. After that I returned to my room, where Wade had jazzed up my pasta sauce, made pasta, and was waiting for me with Leah, Mr. Nick, and Verena. Afterwards, we all had straweberries and my nummy whipped cream -- NUMMY.
Verena left to go to sleep/study/be German by herself, and we broke out white (nastycheap) table wine, crackers gouda and queso de pais (really creamy rich cheese) and had fun playing "you're ugly!" on www.hotornot.com. Then we decided that since Leah, Wade, and I all have HoN photos up, Mr. Nick should have one too, which prompted an impromtu photoshoot, and Nur getting his digital groove on in Photoshop 7 to make Mr. Nick all the more fabootylicious than he already is (hard to believe possible that he could be, but then again, that's why I'm as good as I am ((insert modesty here)).
Wade said "I'll be right back. I'm gonna go get Nur's pillows and blanket that he left in my room when Brian and Steven slept over for my birthday.
That was the last anyone ever saw of Wade...ever. (just kidding.. sorta.)
For several hours (okay, 2), we waited for Wade to come back. We got worried and joked that he went for a walk outside in the forest and tripped on a rock & was eaten by a bear. But then we realized that there aren't as many bears in Spain, so he must have been eaten by a wolf... yea... that's it. So I broke into Wade's room (maybe he was sleeping... with the phone unplugged so he couldn't answer it... and his earphones in his ears... so he couldn't hear Leah pounding on the door and shouting his name at 4am... yea... that must be it) and brought back pillows -- I'd forgotten that I had the extra blanket, but the sleeping bag was gone.
So at about 6am, Mr. Nick and I settled to sleep, and Leah went to bed in her apt.
Next morning, I called Wade. "Where in the name of the Great Zombie Jesus were you last night!?" "I went to my room, and got distracted and forgot. I saw Carla [ardilla loca] in the hall and went to her room and we talked and listened to American music on the Portuguese radio." Well. Thanks. Nick will kill you later. Wade, as usual, is forgiven. He's Wade.
3. What could be more fun than being woken up at 6am yesterday (Monday morning) by a friend in the US? Oh, I don't know. STRANGENESS. I was slightly bitter/annoyed for the most of the day because of it. STRANGE. I talked to him later and told him he needed to rethink the whole "calling at 6am to say 'hi'" thing and he apologized. Nur, once again, is forgiving. However, mental tactics by said friend to guilt Nur into feeling bad -- didn't work. Try harder -- or take lessons from my mom about guilt. Jewish womyn OWN that arena. Like queers with hairdressers and flight attendants. Nuff said. {more about stereo-types another time} Mr. Nick gave his opinion. Nur listened. Felt conflicted. We went to sleep making fun of Elyssa. Good times by all. ::sigh::
4. THE TIENDA IN MY BUILDING CLOSED!!!! Is this not RANDOM? Yes. VERY. Is this not INFURIATING? Yes. VERY. Why? Oh, well, that's where Nur shops with his food account that he uses exclusively from the university. I like eating so much, I thought I'd do it again another night... like, tomorrow. Too bad El Seor EVIL who runs the store suddenly (without warning) closed it, took away all the food, and left, without a "chao!" or an explanation. Cabrn (Bastard).
5. Verena got the result of her mid-term exam back. a 3.something. Meanwhile someone told her she got, like a 7. Considering the points are out of 10, she got a 30%. That's BAD. She's sad. I'm empathetic. She studied like a madwommon for 3 weeks. SERIOUSLY. I think that should say something about the Prof. Like, either how he is, how he writes his test, or how he grades. SOMETHING. I am not pleased with this person whom I've never met.
6. Verena's computer suddenly decided something random after a month and a half... "I'm not going to turn on anymore, Germangurl. What do you think of that? {Beeeeeep beep beep}" Luckily(?), our plucky (with bad hair ::sigh::) hero was there. We called HP tech support -- which, I must say is pretty good, all issues aside. MUCH better than Gateway or Dell, I think -- and James (our tech rep) helped me narrow down the problem to either the notebook's memory or the video chipset memory. I could only help if the memory was bad. VCM is something they would have to service for her. So we tried the memory. NO FIX. He said that since we were transferred to the US -- we'd called the Spanish number and selected "ENGLISH" -- we would have to call and select German and have them send a courrier to pick up her computer and fix it. Well, in Europe, there's apparently no such thing as 27hour support hotines. BOO! So Verena decided she was going to do the next best thing, swear in German -- which is normal for her. Then decided she'd call later tomrrow when the German line is open.
Later that evening, before dinner in my apt, she told me she turned on her computer, just for funzies, and guess what? Her computer works. Will wonders never cease. It was all me. I knew it. She gave me a hug. :) I need more affection. Any takers?
7. There's a "going away, get lost you spoiled stuck up bitch" party for Elyssa on Tuesday of next week. Why am I going? It's at a Chinese restaurant. Who can say no to that, Mr. Nick and I said at practically the same time. Mmmmm. Chinese.
TO TODAY:
8. I woke up with Mr. Nick. He went home to shower, change, have lunch; and then today at 3pm, he and Wade met with Verena to practice German for their final exam. Wade and I went to our department cafeteria for lunch, as usual at 2. I had English class at 4. Works out well. Wade left after lunch, I had caf con leche (coffee with milk) with my funkyfunsisters G.Lo and K.Ass, and checked out my site at a computer to pass the time. I ran into Javier Perez Guerra, talked to him about my classes -- WHAT A NICE GUY! ::bezos:: and then promptly went insane looking for my English class. WHY? Because first, several rooms in the 'T' building have been "moved" to the 'C' building. But that was just the start of my issue. I went to 'C', no one's there. I went to 'T' again. No one. I went to 'F' to see if maybe there was some sorta overflow and I'm supposed to be there... NOPE.
So I went to the main pavillion and talked to someone in the main office.
Perhaps I'll write more when I get back to my apt. I always seem to have such fun adventures! Javier will email me with what I'll do about my food issue. I do so love not starving... but this might be a good way to diet.
ps. The word of the day is "woo!"
